Located in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in the Center for Discovery & Innovation (CDI) building of the City College campus of The City University of New York, the research group led by Distinguished Professor Ruth E. Stark pursues diverse research projects in the areas of molecular biophysics and structural biology.
Our main research focus areas are:
- Molecular Biophysics (structure and dynamics of cytosolic and peripheral membrane proteins; fatty acid binding and metabolism; molecular structure, development, and biomechanics of protective plant polymers; molecular structure and assembly of fungal melanins.
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Technology.
- We collaborate with research groups in the New York Metropolitan area as well as at other sites in the U.S. and overseas. Our 15-person research team includes Senior Research Fellows, Postdoctoral Associates, Ph.D. trainees (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Physics), undergraduates (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering) and high school interns.Detailed information can be found on this website about our groupʼs ongoing research projects, personnel, and career trajectories.
